I’ve been receiving email updates from my local food bank about the Farm Bill and the cuts that some in Congress want to make to federal assistance for the hungry. One of the programs at risk is SNAP, the Supplemental Nutrition Assitance Program (commonly refered to as food stamps).

About an hour ago, the food bank posted this on Facebook.

Two would-be detrimental amendments were defeated yesterday! Unfortunately, the Gillibrand amendment to restore SNAP cuts failed. Moving forward, the bill still has cuts that will cost an estimated $90 per month in benefits for each of about 500,000 households.

How disheartening. How much of a problem is this? Watch this video and find out.

There’s still time to contact your representatives about some of the portions of the Farm Bill. Please contact them at 1-877-698-8228 or online and let them know you want the Farm Bill to help feed the hungry.
