Every time new statistics about food waste are released, the amount of food that’s wasted globally seems to go up. When I first started learning and writing about food waste five years ago, the estimates on wasted food were around 30 percent.
A new report by The Institution of Mechanical Engineers in Britain now says that number may actually be as 50 percent. Voice of America produced this video about the problem:
I like that the news report ended on a positive note. There is enough food to feed everyone if we work to reduce food waste.

I really need to reduce food waste in our own household first. I am guilty of buying foods and forgetting about them or not using them in time before they go bad. I've seen a "food waste Friday" where you take a picture of wasted food each week and considered participating.
