We’re midway into the last month of the year, and “top 10 lists” and “best of” lists for the year are beginning to pop up everywhere. I’m planning a separate post on cookbook lists a little later in the month, but there are other lists I’ve seen that are worth a look.


  • Grist lists the 2011 sustainable food trends. I’m once again surprised to find how trendy I am since I’ve been known to participate in such trends as “root to stem cooking” and food swaps.
  • Some of the 11 biggest food trends of 2011 that The Huffington Post lists aren’t surprising like insects, foraging or macaroons. But pimento cheese took me by surprise. I didn’t have a clue that was making the rounds with foodies.
  • When it comes to fast food, there’s bad, and then there’s the baddest of the bad. The Dallas Observer lists the 10 worst fast food trends of 2011. Anyone care to put a nice scoop of mac and cheese on their patty melt? No? Me neither.
  • From Google data, Bon Appetit has a list of the top-Googled recipes in 2011. The number one thing people searched for? Chicken recipes. No surprise there. Everyone’s always trying to find something new and exciting to do with it.
