It’s time for my weekly Weight Watchers update. I lost 1.6 pounds this week, bringing my total lost to 16.2 pounds. I’m very happy to have passed the 15-pound mark. One of the things helping me stay on this diet is that it doesn’t disrupt family dinner time at all. As I mentioned when I first told you I had started the Weight Watchers program, it focuses on eating real foods and portion control. I can always eat the same foods that I feed my family, usually just in very controlled portions. There is never a feeling of “poor mom, she’s on a diet and can’t eat that.”

Speaking of the family dinner, this weekend reads centers on that all-important meal.

  • More and more Brits are eating in front of their computers, reports The Telegraph. Three–fifths of the people surveyed said they have eaten dinner in front of their computer, and one-fifth said they do it on a regular basis.
  • Regular family meals can help prevent eating disorders, and a new study says that half a million American teenagers have eating disorders. USA Today says that kids with eating disorders also frequently suffer from depression and thoughts of suicide.
  • On a more positive note, another recent study shows that 72 percent of kids feel closer to their parents when the whole family sits down together for meals. Creston News Advisor also reports that parents that make family meals a priority feel happier and less stressed.
  • Last Friday’s Family Dinner Download from The Huffington Post prompted families to talk about “the crush of schoolwork.”
  • Arizona’s abc15 has tips on getting the whole family involved in making the family dinner to make it more fun and less stressful.
