I’m sure I’ve mentioned this before, but when I was a kid there was only one food in my home that was reserved for eating only when it was in season – Jersey corn. The sweet corn we grow in the Garden State is the best corn in the world. Don’t take my word for it. Kelly Ripa says so, too.
Yesterday, during the chat time of “Live with Kelly and Michael,” Ripa told her co-host Michael Strahan that she went home to visit her parents in South Jersey over the weekend, and she came home with a bushel of corn. When cStrahan asked her where the corn came from, she said it came from Stella’s, the “greatest farm stand in South Jersey.”
What happened when she mentioned the farm, and it’s 90-something-year old owner? Here’s what happened.
The farm stand was packed! How great is that?
Stella’s is close to my heart. It was my father’s favorite place to get corn, and we would frequently take the half-hour drive to the farm stand in his non-air conditioned 1963 Chevy Impala he inherited from his grandmother. (Literally the car that sat in the garage only to be driven back and forth to the grocery store by a little old lady.) Even though there were closer farm stands, he thought Stella’s was the best.
You can hear all that Ripa has to say about the Garden State and it’s amazing produce in this video. She starts talking about it at around the 5:15 mark.
Do you have a favorite local farm stand? Give it a shout out in the comments and make sure you mention where it is.
