On a budget? Bake your own bread - takes a little more time but costs a lot less in the long run. Buy as locally-raised organic flours as you can - you'll still save money over the wonderbread crap, and nothing smells yummy as a kitchen where bread is in the oven!

All of the people making nasty comments about liberals and hippies: what the heck are you doing here? Just come in to harass? Let those of us who care about the environment, the food we put into our bodies have our discussions. Take your ugliness somewhere else.

What a joke.
Hippies, please put down the bong. you will find thinking gets easier.

What some documentaries on these issues, and it will change how you think, eat and live. Your the one who needs to put down the drugs, clear your head, and take off the foggy glasses your looking through.

Because wheat bread is pure and doen't have a bunch of inexpensive fillers in it like white bread.

Wow! If all of you environmentalist would channel your energy to fixing the budget crisis I bet you would have it solved in a month. You seem to have everything else figured out which includes trying to put farmers out of business!

Again, the cost factor. Why is more expensive the whole grain than the white bread?

White bread is less expensive because it has a very long shelf life. It can be stored for a very long time without going bad so stores can keep it on the shelf for a long time. Also, white flour itself has a much longer shelf life than whole wheat. With whole grain you have to worry about spoilage. But remember, healthier foods are the ones that can spoil and go bad. We want our food to have the ability to break down easily into nutrients we can use!
