Little explanation is needed for this devilish, oft-imitated dish invented by Frank Sodolak of Sodolak’s Original Country Inn in the tiny rural outpost of Snook, Texas. As you probably guessed, chicken fried bacon consists of thick-cut strips of bacon dredged in batter, dropped in a deep fryer and then served with or without a side of white country gravy. And yep, we’re guessing the calorie count associated with an order of Sodolak’s diet-corrupting signature dish far surpasses the population of the town that it’s served in.
Does Snook, Texas, sound vaguely familiar? It’s most likely because in addition to being the birthplace of chicken fried bacon, the town is home to Chilifest, a two-day chili cook-off and live country music event. Here’s hoping that the hospitals in the nearby city of College Station have outstanding heart attack units.
