Quilted Northern Soft and Strong Champions - 2011

Content provided by Georgia-Pacific

Whether it is participating in a local race, volunteering time, or supporting friends, the Quilted Northern Soft & Strong Champions campaign focuses on volunteers and recognizes individuals supporting the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure®.

2011 Champions

ATLANTA’S QUILTED NORTHERN SOFT & STRONG® CHAMPION - KAREN BRAGMAN
Karen Bragman is the president of the Komen Atlanta Board of Directors, and a 14-year survivor of breast cancer. She dedicates her time to raise funds for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, bringing the organization to the forefront in the Atlanta community and ultimately helping others who also have been affected by the disease.

She says, “I feel like I can really make a difference because what we do at Komen impacts people’s lives in a tangible way. I believe we can achieve the mission of Komen for ourselves and our children.” Read More.

SAVANNAH’S QUILTED NORTHERN SOFT & STRONG® CHAMPION - ROBERT ESPINOZA
Robert Espinoza is the race director for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure event in Savannah, Georgia. Robert is a “co-survivor,” facing two battles with breast cancer in his own family. His mother, Olga Espinoza, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1994 and lost her battle 10 years later. Recently, his sister was diagnosed with the disease.

Robert says, “To me the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure is not a race of adrenaline, but a race of emotions; that’s what makes it special.” Read More.

BATON ROUGE’S QUILTED NORTHERN SOFT & STRONG® CHAMPION - RENEE ANDRE
Renee Andre has been a dedicated volunteer for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Baton Rouge since 2008, serving in several positions within her affiliate. A three-year cancer survivor herself, Renee’s positive attitude, compassion, commitment and efforts have not gone unnoticed.

“After battling cancer and surviving, I look at death much differently. I’ve learned to celebrate every day without my cancer and I don’t know if it will come back, but I know that today I will be happy and I will celebrate. God has blessed me with a wonderful family and wonderful friends and I never miss an opportunity to let them know how I feel today and from now on.” Read More.
