Candied walnut recipe

Perfect to serve at a holiday party, candied walnuts are a well-loved winter-time treat.

Ingredients
  • 2 cups shelled walnuts
  • 1 cup sugar
  • ½ cup water
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp vanilla extract
  • Butter

Time Estimates
Prep time: 15 min
Cook time: 10 min
Total time: 25 min

Directions
  1. Spread nuts on baking sheet and toast at 375 degrees in oven for about five minutes, or until the smell of roasting nuts fills the kitchen. Don't let them burn!
  2.
  3. Butter sides of a two-quart saucepan.
  4.
  5. Combine sugar, water, salt and cinnamon in saucepan.
  6.
  7. Boil the mixture over medium heat, stirring continuously until it reaches soft ball stage*. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla.
  8.
  9. Add the roasted nuts to the mixture and stir in until all nuts are coated well. Spoon the nuts onto waxed paper and separate each nut to dry.
  10.

Makes 2 cups of nuts

*Soft ball stage = when mixture holds together as a ball, instead of dissolving, when a drop of the mixture is dripped into a cup of cold water.

Once you've let them dry, it's time to enjoy! Bite-size treats like these are perfect for sharing with your office, family and friends.
