Milk dud: Schools rule out chocolate
Having milk with school lunch has long been a constant at nearly every school in America, but now some schools are taking out the flavors.

I think both chocolate milk and kids have changed a lot over the years. It was when I was drinking school milk, a small carton of milk with a bit of chocolate flavoring--just enough for it to "be a treat." Today's school milk comes in "chug" sized bottles--and seems to be high-fructose corn syrup, other sweeteners and chocolate. (at least in the school districts my children have attended) Today's schools don't have nearly the active daily recess either. I remember my teachers shoo-ing groups who

stood around and chit-chatted into activity. Today if you see children older than kindergarten on a playground for recess--you more likely see social activity rather than play. That recess is short too. I think 15-20 minutes was the max any of my children had. Add that to a life of going home and then not being sprung to "come back when I call you for dinner" or "when the lights go on"--you end up with chocolate milk being a part of the problem rather than part of a solution.

I used to LOVE chocolate milk as a kid - but I understand why they are eliminating it.
