5 Valentine's Day splurges

Looking to spoil your sweetheart with chocolates this Feb. 14? Look no further.

I know. The other day I wrote about consuming experiences this Valentine’s Day instead of consuming stuff. Still, some of you are going to buy your loved ones a sweet treat this year. Heck, I wouldn’t mind a small treat myself. If you’re going splurge, and most of these are splurges, give these treats a look.

Equal Exchange Chocolate and Coffee Pairing Gift Bag – Two bags of organic coffee (one is called Love Buzz), four organic chocolate bars and instructions for pairing in a 100 percent recycled gift bag. I was sent one of Equal Exchange’s gift baskets filled with fair trade yumminess back in December, so I know their chocolates and coffees are good. $34.95/basket.

Nicobella Vegan Organic Dark Chocolate Truffles – An assortment of one each of Blueberry Almond, Ginger Green Tea, Pumpkin Chai, Sunflower Banana Butter, Walnut Flaxseed, Pure Cocoa Bliss. Apparently, vegan Alicia Silverstone is a fan of these truffles. $13/box of 6.

Sjaaks Organic Lavender Truffles – Heart-shaped organic dark chocolate lavender truffles are wrapped in lavender foil and gift boxed in, what else, a lavender-colored box. A little different than the usual Valentine’s Day, but quite romantic looking. $14.95/box.

Askinosie Valentine’s Box - Askinosie describes its chocolate as “unofficially organic” and “beyond Fair Trade.” I love the look of this box of four 3-ounce single-origin chocolate bars. The gift tag on the box is customizable, and if you have the box shipped directly to your sweetheart, Askinosie will customize it for you. $24/box.

Organic Fair Trade Valentine Heart Vegan Truffles Box – Sometimes, you just need the traditional heart shaped box. Even the pretty pink box that holds the chocolates is fair trade – made by the Fair Trade women's co-operative using tree free fibers such as mango, mulberry and banana in Thailand. $38/box of 20 chocolates.

Two More Choc Brands That Will Make Your Sweety's Heart Melt

I consider myself to be a serious chocolate connoisseur...or more like a chocky-junkie. Gotta get my fix whenever and wherever I can. I've tasted many-a-brand of organic and fair trade varieties in my day and I've got to give huge kudos to a few labels that aren't yet on your list above but definitely deserve to be.

Theo Chocolate. Seattle-based. Phenomenal & diverse flavor collection. Deep, rich and satisfying.

Where to get Theo Chocolate

I agree, Theo is great and they have a huge variety of bars. You can get Theo and lots of other organic bars online at NewLeafChocolates.com where they donate a percent of all sales to environmental charity.

Is It That Time Again????

WOW...I cannot believe that another Valentine Season is upon us. Truth of the matter is that when it comes to that special someone in your life...everyday should really be valentines day shouldn't it?
