We all love a little sweetness in our lives. While I’ve found that I personally don’t do well with too many sweets or overly sweetened baked goods, I have found that I better tolerate lightly sweetened desserts that employ natural sweeteners like maple syrup, coconut sugar, or unrefined cane sugar — and they're delicious too! Once your body has been weaned off a typical refined sugar filled diet,
your taste buds can enjoy many delicious recipes that use minimal, unrefined sweeteners.
Things got a little trickier when we found out that one of my daughters and I are very intolerant to eggs. But thankfully, we were able to find some beautiful recipes that are modestly sweetened and egg-free. Here are a couple of noteworthy ones.
Thin Mint Cookies:
These drool-worthy, chocolate-covered cookies are a delicious treat, and they contain much less sweetener than a typical cookie. They are gluten- and egg-free as well!
Paleo Egg-Free Macaroons:
We tried out this recipe for egg-free macaroons recently and loved them! They are sweetened with only a fairly small amount of maple syrup and are full of healthy, fiber-rich coconut flakes and flour. We will definitely be making these again.
Mini Chocolate Chip Cookies:
These allergy-friendly, coconut flour cookies (pictured above) are gluten-, grain- and egg-free, and are sweetened with a small amount of honey. Enjoy without guilt. I find these best warm.
Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies:
These unique cookies are made with a base of soft plantain, coconut flour, and arrowroot powder, and then sweetened with a modest amount of coconut sugar. They sound delicious!
