Maple Cheddar Pears

An unlikely but toothsome combo to lighten up a gray day.

Maple Cheddar Pears
Ingredients
  • 2 pears, halved and pared
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • Cinnamon to taste
  • 4 slices sharp cheddar cheese
Time estimates
Prep time: 10 minutes
Total time: 30 minutes

Directions
  1. Holding pear upright, remove skin using slow, even pressure with vegetable peeler in downward strokes. Blanch in cold water to prevent browning.
  2. In large skillet combine syrup and butter. Bring to a boil, about three minutes. Place halved pears flat side down in skillet. Dust with cinnamon. Cover and simmer until pears are tender, about 10 minutes.
  3. To plate the pears, center sliced cheddar on serving plate. Place cooked pear on cheddar and drizzle with maple syrup. Serve hot.
