When social networking has saved lives

It is a waste of time if social networking interferes with the important daily tasks in life. I see no wrong in it though, you either choose to be on it or you dont.

I found that if you spend too much time inside social networking on your computer, you spend less time outside enjoying the fresh air, sports, and other related activities.
There are many couch potatoes out there who will rob you of the time you could be spending doing "real things" with" real people" as opposed to just hanging out in cyberspace with a lot of cyber heads.

Two of these I call BS on, and one was iffy at best.
Iffy: The home invasion. It's not clear at all that the woman's life was in danger, just her big screen tv.
BS: The berry one, a life wasn't saved because the berry wasn't fatal. And the iPhone one, a life WAS saved, but NOT by social networking.
Headline fail.

When a young neighbor kid was having some emotional problems he reached out to my son via Facebook. He told him that he was going to kill himself on the coming Friday morning before school, after his parents left for work.
My son called me immediately and saved the chat conversation.
We dialed 911 and sent the police and EMS to his house.
He got the attention he was seeking, and if he was, inf fact going to kill himself, he didn't.
So I believe it did....and thankfully, we'll never know.

And how many people died or were maimed or are going to die from the uprisings in Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, Syria, Bahrain, .....? I know, I know, freedom comes at a price. I just wonder how many of those places are really going to end up with some democratic govt vs. a simple switchover to some other thug on top.
