We’ve all heard a picture can be worth a thousand words. Thanks to an environmental photo contest hosted by Dell, yours could be worth $1,000.

World Environment Day has a special significance to the folks at Dell.  On this day two years ago, Michael Dell pledged to acceleratethe company’s already highly-regarded sustainability program, and he’s encouraged the industry to follow suit. The beautiful part of this pledge is there’s no finish line. There will always be more to do. And when companies compete to the best in all things “green,”  our environment is better off for it.

To commemorate this day and celebrate what people around the world are doing to combat climate change, Dell invites you to use Twitter to share photos of what you’re doing to reduce your impact on the planet.  Whether commuting by bicycle;  installing rainwater collection systems or solar panels; making your home or office more energy-efficient; or doing something most people have never even considered, we want your pics!  The submitter of the best photo will have $1,000 donated to the non-profit of their choice.  The top five finalists will be selected based on the number of retweets they receive, so it’ll behoove you to have friends promote your submission. The winner will be chosen based on originality and impact.

To enter, just @reply to Twitter handle “@Dell_WED” with a link to your photo. Submit your photos directly from your mobile phone using Twitpic or provide a link to one of your photos posted on Flickr. Be sure to send it to “@Dell_WED” on Twitter. The contest goes from June 4- June 22. Submissions will also be posted in a gallery right here on Mother Nature Network and  on Dell’s Facebook page. Join Dell’s Facebook page to stay in the loop on future contests and Dell news. For complete contest details please visit the rules page here.
