20,000 customers leave GoDaddy.com in response to CEO's elephant-shooting video
Rival Namecheap.com donates $20,000 to Save the Elephants, $1 for each customer who transfers from GoDaddy.com to the rival web-hosting service.

Many customers of web host GoDaddy.com have jumped ship after CEO Bob Parsons posted a video of himself shooting an elephant in Zimbabwe last week. More than 20,000 former GoDaddy users have transferred their accounts to rival Namecheap.com, which promised to donate 20 percent of the revenue raised to the nonprofit Save the Elephants.

After the video was released, NameCheap offered to transfer accounts for $4.99 and donate $1 for each new customer to the nonprofit. As of April 5, NameCheap says it has raised $20,433 to help African elephants.

The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) decried Parsons' hunt and video last week. The organization closed its account with GoDaddy and encouraged others to do the same.

GoDaddy founder Parsons traveled to Zimbabwe earlier this year to hunt what he called "problem elephants," animals that destroy local villagers' crops, calling it the most rewarding thing he does in his life.

Parsons has brushed off criticism and does not plan to apologize. He told Time magazine that he is not sorry about the hunt or the video, and he plans to do it again because it is a service to the people of Zimbabwe.

POLL: Are you less likely to use GoDaddy.com now?

I'm one of those customers who left. I have been using them for more than 5 years and now use namecheap.com - they're cheaper and don't have that whole nascar elephant killing thing going.

So I am confused....a guy killed an elephant that was subsequently used to feed dozens of starving people, and we're MAD about it? I suppose it's better to let the elephants destroy the crops and let the people starve. Good plan.

I said it before and I'll say it again, this man is just a heartless beast. There are plenty of elephants in Africa. Why this particular one--a mother with a cub? I would hope he wouldn't shoot a nursing human mother and leave the baby to starve to death. That is exactly what he did to this elephant with her baby. How did he expect the baby to survive without its mother? Did he think or care about that? What an awful experience for that baby elephant to remember and they say they have memories that

Dear bleeding heart groups. If animals effect the lives of humans the majority of the time they are put down. You don't like it? then tear down the house you own make it a wild life sanctuary for whatever you can and go live in the forest. First World Country Problems 'nuff said

If you go to elephants.com they have a really interesting article about elephants suffering from PTSD. You can also send donations to help reserve the Sanctuary.

Your domain purchase at GoDaddy.com supports Bob Parsons killing elephants and other wildlife. His hunting does nothing to solve human-elephant conflict in Zimbabwe. It only makes it worse. It angers the elephants and makes them distrustful of humans and even more likely to attack. If you want your website to support saving elephants, we've posted a list of elephant and eco-friendly places to register domains or host your website. Also, we will be donating to foster orphaned baby elephants at The

http://research.eeescience.utoledo.edu/lees/Teaching/EEES4760_07/Hoare.PDF Based on this Journal study a couple of your points are disproven. 1. In summary number 4 it states that the human elephant conflict is a product of "the behavioural ecology of individual elephant bulls" not people. 2. "Con¯ict appears to be increasing in an assortment of African ecosystems as the agricultural interface with elephant range expands." More farm land =more dead elephants. Your support of elephants is just

as pointless as Bob Parsons shooting them. No one on this site has answered my question yet, Would the villagers have shot that elephant if bob parsons was not there? Probobly. What barriers are in place to stop the shooting of elephants in africa? None, so give your money so poachers or villagers can eat more elephant.

You obviously didn't see the video of the kill with the baby elephant watching the slaughter and crying loudly. They say the elephant is one of the closest to the human in emotional characteristics of the animal kingdom. So, not only was an animal brutally slain and its baby left motherless but another animal was added to the list of those that are inhumanely slaughtered by humans every day. God is going to make man answer for what he has done on Judgement Day!

If you know so much about Afrika Adam, do everyone a favor and go live there and take your racist stereotypying ways with you. Probably been living here for 10 generations now, but someone who acts so insightful, you're probably just a loser and a hypocrite.

Why is that everytime there is a problem with an animal "invading human territory" the answer is to kill it. There are other ways. Why didn't he donate money to move the elephants, put up fences etc, but no it's easier to just kill it. What a crock. Killing for fun is sick.

Since when has that ever happened? Can you imagine a poor african farmer putting up acres of fencing around there farm. Or is it just cheaper to buy a single bullet and shoot the elephant? Think about it.

You people make me sick. The elephant is destroying much needed crops. The alternative methods of keeping the beasts from destroying crops is likely to happen when we all switch to electiric cars. Let hunters have their fun in a way that is actually doing some good. Keep your Bambi emotions at bay. The elephant is shot, and virtually every spec of it is used in some way. It all generates money for the local community. Have you ever tried elephant steak. Not bad at all. Find something better

YOU make ME sick. I don't give a rat's petootie about Africa, or their "communities." Africa has so many rich natural resources, and what do they do? Kill each other over them, and are still poor. The elephants are smarter than the residents, not to mention more social. You are a sick feck.

wow i only thought vegans got this dumb. You care for an animal over your fellow man and act like africa has the ability to do everything we do. to put this in perspective during the end of the cold war the russian president came to the U.S. and afetr meeting the president went to a super market to see how americans live. he thought the amount of food was staged, there was no way americans could live that well. and that was super power russia not third world africa resources dont mean shit if you

While in San Antonio a few years back I saw my first IMAX FILM. It was on ELEPHANTS. They were miigrating due to a drought and came across a dead baby Elephant. Four female elements threw their trunks around the baby Elephant's Mother, as we would have done, be it a human baby. It was as if they were filled with human compassion,At one point I feelt like they would have brought flowers,it was so profound and I cried like my heart was breaking. Went back the next day and saw it again. How can anyone

look an animal in the eye and then kill it? They shouldn't get a trophy for this, more like ten years in prison! If they are protecting their family, or home against death or destruction, that is a different manner. To take a life of a Human or an unprotected animal is not, manly, it is pure egotistical insanity! What a way to impress a Woman? I do not know of a Woman who would live with such a man, or let him around Children. BLESSINGS to all Animals. They were here first. MJL

So what your saying is that people should let animals eat all there crops and die of hunger rather than shoot the elephant and have farms to feed there children? You live in a Western society with lots of food and health care. You will never die of hunger or know it so stop commenting on a third world nation and there way of surviving. Your a spoiled child of the world telling the poor kid how and what to eat. STFU

Has made them a self reliant nation/continent. Am i right? Because decades of western medical, food, and financial aid to the poorest regions of the african continent have made there children healthier and less of a starving people. Oh wait, seeds dont grow in the desert. But elephant meat does. Hear that? Its the dinner bell.
