Local residents launch a cleanup operation on Aug. 9 on Mare Street in London. Residents met at the nearby Hackney Town Hall to lament the damage done to their community after the third day of rioting.

 

The rioting began on Aug. 7 after London police shot and killed a local black man in Tottenham, sparking tension between the government and local working-class communities of color.
