China's growing algae problem

A fisherman sculls the boat on the surface of Caohu Lake, which is rich with minerals and organic nutrients and harbors layers of cyanophyceae. The blue-green smelly algae runs rampant in many of China's lakes. Degradation, pollution and deterioration of water quality are the major problems threatening China's lakes. In fact, most of them are in a severe eutrophication state like this one.
