A clear look at Messier 17

The first released image from Chile's VLT Survey Telescope displayed the breathtaking star-forming region Messier 17, also known as the Omega Nebula or the Swan Nebula.

This expansive region, located in the constellation of Sagittarius at the heart of the Milky Way, is filled of gas, dust and hot young stars.
