A clear view of Mercury's craters are present in this image taken by Messenger, the NASA spacecraft currently orbiting the planet.

The image is the first photo of the planet obtained from a spacecraft in the planet's orbit. Over the course of six hours, Messenger acquired an additional 363 images before downlinking some of the data to Earth.
