Underwater cabinet meeting

Maldives President Mohamed Nasheed presides over a cabinet meeting during the world's first underwater cabinet meeting on Oct. 17. In the meeting, the president, vice president and the cabinet of Maldives signed a declaration calling for concerted global action on climate change, ahead of the U.N. climate conference in Copenhagen. The meeting was part of a wider campaign by international environmental organization NGO 350.org. The international group's name refers to 350 ppm of CO2, the level leading scientists say is the safe upper limit for carbon dioxide — measured in "parts per million" in Earth's atmosphere.
