Bad date? Soon women will have a way to send out an SOS without making transparent excuses to duck out to the ladies room. Pants with a built-in pocket that let you text with one hand while sipping a drink with the other will be available this spring.
The smartphone jeggings (that's a cross between jeans and leggings) first appeared at the FashionWare runway show at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Alphyn’s Valencia Jeggings are made of stretch denim with a protective pocket sewn on one leg that can fit all but the biggest smartphones , or "phablets," the extra-large phone-tablet hybrids. The pocket's protective, transparent cover allows the wearer to use a phone without taking it out of her pocket.
The San Francisco-based company says the design was inspired by fighter pilots' G-suits, which have straps and pockets on the thighs to provide easy access to maps and notes while in the air. Alphyn line of clothing for men includes jeans and jackets with similar pockets, as well as a hoodie with a drop-down chest pocket for an iPad.
The Jeggings will be available on Alphyn's website in sizes x-small through xx-large. The company has not yet announced prices, but their tech-pocket jeans for men retail at $160.

At first I thought how ridiculous. Then I considered the number of women's garments without pockets which then necessitate carrying a handbag of some nature. I can see how having this option would be useful in some cases.
