Texting and walking don't mix: Woman falls into fountain

Pennsylvania woman who fell into a mall fountain while texting — becoming an instant Internet sensation in the process — has hired an attorney.

Read more: FUNNY, VIDEO

Cathy Cruz Marrero was texting and walking at the Pennsylvania mall where she works when she fell into a fountain on Jan. 12 — and the entire episode was captured on a mall security camera. The video, which was released by mall security, has since become an Internet sensation, and Marrero says she's humiliated and troubled by the behavior of two mall security officers who can be heard laughing on the video.

"My issue is I don't think security was professional because they didn't send anyone to check on me until 20 minutes later and I had already left," Marrero told the Reading Eagle newspaper on Wednesday in her first interview since the accident.

She has hired a lawyer who has promised to look into the matter.

Is this lady serious? She is going to sue for her own stupidity. She says mall security didn't help her...lol,,,,did you see how fast she got out of there. She didn't want anyone to see how stupid she is. If she gets any money for this, this country is as stupid as she is!!!!

"My issue is...that I'm an idiot for being embarrassed and then doing multiple interviews telling the whole world that person was me. Now some random girl in Florida who would have never known it was me, knows my full name and can laugh at me because I cried on TV too."

That should have been her quote to the newspaper

You can't see her face in the video. No one would even know it was her if she hadn't cried about it on the news. She is an example of the dismal failure of the American public school system.

The only reason she wants to sue is b/c she was embarrassed. Suck it up & shake it off lady. You were texting. It is your own fault you fell in the fountain. Nobody came to your aid b/c you weren't hurt just embarrassed. Don't waste our courts time with another ridiculous lawsuit and PAY ATTENTION TO WHERE YOU ARE WALKING! DUH!

You guys don't even know for sure what she's hiring an attorney for. Maybe she doesn't want this video of her circulating all over the world and being played on late night t.v. for example. Can't really blame her.

On another site i heard they she was suing because they didn't come to her aid, which makes no sense at all. The video of the Lady falling is obviously a camera phone taping a monitor showing they were watching it during playback. Does security constantly monitor surveillance at malls? It seems like their job is protecting and keeping and helping those in need, helping a lady falling into a fountain and climbing right back serves no purpose. In my eyes this is her getting back at the internet.... More
