The American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity (ACCCE) admitted on Monday that they had, in fact, subcontracted with shady lobbying firm Bonner & Associates who forged at least 12 letters to House members shortly before the big vote on the ACES climate and energy bill last month.

 

The letters appeared to be from prominent nonprofit organizations that had been supportive of the bill.

 

ACCCE apologized officially for the fiasco, saying that they knew nothing about the forged letters. But today, it was found that  they did ... four weeks ago! Apparently it was the bright idea of one "temp" who used official letterheads from two different nonprofit organizations.

 

Since the letters were faxed, many progressive groups including the Sierra Club are calling for the Justice Department to investigate and prosecute for wire fraud.

 

Today's factoid: ACCCE self-reported a whopping $11.3 million spent lobbying AGAINST the American Clean Energy & Security Act. I guess they are not feeling too "clean" today.
