A great intro to how nuclear fission works by National Geographic. This is a report on the Susquehanna power plant in Pennsylvania which powers over a million homes and recently required a rotor replacement.

The plant has been up for 5 years and the one repair cost $10 million. Had it not gone well, the replacement project could have cost the power company (and their customers) a great deal more.
