I don't really buy into the whole "animal rights" crowd, but it's hard to look at the current state of meat production in the world without seeing a lot of problems grown meat can fix. The fact that they actually mention doing this is Star Trek just makes it more awesome.

This sounds awesome. No gross fat chunks, no FACTORY FARMS treating conscious creatures like MACHINES, creating suffering on a huge scale that meat eaters like to pretend doesn't happen. They can tune it so pure delicious muscle grows full speed with no time wasted on growing bones and legs and organs..If you think this is gross, look at a picture of a factory farm, if that means nothing, you are an ignorant human animal with your eyes closed to how food is produced in our world today..... Because the beer and bread, of course, come from plants grown within those breweries and bakeries, don't they?

How is this gross? If you eat meat, you're already eating loads of chemicals and pesticides. If anything, this will allow you to enjoy your flesh without and preservatives or crap. I'm sure you eat loads of processed food daily, don't be a hypocrite.

No, it really isn't how McDonald's meat is made. They use actual real 100% beef from real animals. Taco Bell, on the other hand....

As a carnivore who loves meat, even I know that meat is not necessary for survival. A decade of research put into THIS? Not to mention, if we create something like this to help starving countries, how are they going to move past their crisis if they cannot produce this food economically themselves? A bit more common sense to stick to growing something that makes seeds which can then be used to CONTINUE to feed people without them needing to rely on technology they cannot afford or making them.... Just how dumb do you have to be to think you can improve on a process that has been in place since time began. Lab created meat? Not for me thank you.

Do we really have to start mutating dramatically before we learn that man-grown foods are NOT OK FOR CONSUMPTION?

So, what food exactly are we supposed to eat?
Almost all food is grown by man.

Unless you're out in the forest every day scavenging, I doubt you're not eating man-grown foods.

Lab meat

You get beer from a brewery and bread from a bakery, so developmental biologist Dr. Vladimir Mironov says it’s only logical that we’ll one day get meat from a “carnery.” Mironov has been working to grow meat in a lab for the past decade because he believes that manufactured meat could help solve global food crises. He says this “cultured meat” will one day be sold in grocery stores and come from bioreactors that allow the consumer to design exactly the kind of meat he wants — right down to its taste, texture and amount of fat.
