I spy a spy in a BMW hybrid supercar

New trailer for 'Mission: Impossible 4' features the advanced plug-in hybrid as the car of choice for Tom Cruise.

When Ethan Hunt, the character played by Tom Cruise in the "Mission: Impossible" franchise, decides to save the world, he apparently likes to take a page from a certain British spy and do it with style.

Whereas Bond is more classic in his choice, Hunt is all about the latest in high-tech — a preference clearly on display in the new trailer for the fourth film, "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol."

The BMW i8, a $160,000 hybrid plugin supercar, makes an appearance in the clip — along with all of the explosions, sexy glances, gadgets, and crazy stunts we've come to expect from Cruise and Co. From Ecorazzi:

"If you’re agent Ethan Hunt (played by Cruise), this is a car you’d definitely want on your side. The BMW i8 promises to go from 0-60 mph in five seconds, is powered by a 328-horsepower diesel-electric drivetrain, has a top speed of 155 mph, and fuel efficiency of 62.5 miles per gallon — in other words, the perfect getaway car."

Unfortunately, from the brief action in the trailer, it also appears that this gorgeous vehicle in on the destructive losing end of a high-speed chase. If so, it will be as sad as watching James Bond's Aston Martin get wrecked in "Casino Royale."
