The innovative ECO-Cycle Park, created by Japanese company GIKEN, is an automated underground bicycle storage system that can hold up to 200 bikes. Buried 11 meters underneath the city streets, the ingenious system not only stores bicycles in an efficient manner — it deters bicycle theft and illegal bicycle parking.

Bicyclists pay a monthly subscription for the service, which is accessed by a swipe card and takes less than 10 seconds to use.

After swiping the card and loading the bicycle on the track at the surface level, it disappears behind the doors and descends into the underground deck on special lift. The bicycle is then electronically assigned to a specific storage spot, where it waits until the cyclist recalls it.
