Where's the Prius on your list? You dummies are only looking at operational phase of the vehicles. Even if the C02 lie was true, Hybrids are a total abomination to mamma gya. Full of rare earth metals that are brutally toxic to the environment, featuring radioactive waste among several other poisonous substances, makes gas only economy cars look like freshly planted trees next to a Prius.

If some one were to produce a vehicle that I could drive that, that I did not have to tout around 26 gallons of an explosive; which is sixteen times more powerful than dynamite. And still be able to tow my 30 foot travel trailer and not cost 100,000 to purchase, i would by one

I have been seeing Miles Per Gallon (MPG) being pluralized more and more in both television and print advertising lately. MPG is already plural (notice the 's' at the end of the word 'Miles'?). In our new language-butchering text happy world we are forgetting the basics with increasing momentum. Pluralizing MPG as "MPG's" is both grammatically and technically incorrect! Do modern schools teach the basics any more??

I think whoever wrote this article did not do enough research. Take a look at the Toyota Prius. What impact do the batteries have on the environment? This car is one of the worst cars for the environment. When will society come to realize that battery hybrids are not the answer?

Battery hybrids might not be the answer-agreed. In fact, a natural gas powered car took the top of the greenest list this year and a hybrid wasn't even in the top three.

This article solely addresses 2011 vehicles and their fuel efficiency. If you look into the greenercars.org methodology for the list, you find: "Vehicle and battery weights are used as the basis for estimating manufacturing and disposal.... More

I own a 2009 Chevy Z71 2500 HD,it gets 10 MPG at best but I knew that it was'nt going to be good when I bought it. Now I only use it to tow my camper and my car trailer and I have drove it about 500 miles in four months because of the gas prices.I bought a 2007 Canyon for gas mileage and now I paying for the Z71 that I can't drive because of the MPG but I love the truck so maybe the gas prices will come down so I can drive it more. If your going to dance you have to pay the price.

obamas energy advisers said long ago they desired Americans to pay $7 to $8 @ gallon and these prices are being kept artificially high to force less driving on Americans! We could easily bring gas prices down considerably if the will of the people meant anything to obammi.  These dictators are rich and will never be hurt by prices, they care nothing about working Americans!

I posted a comment yesterday that was removed by MNN. It was not offensive, nor contained obscene language. I merely pointed out in detail that it would take a person 4.5 years to just break even on a basic bare-bones Prius at $4/gallon. Not a great investment. Hmm, I guess the editors didn't like the math or couldn't comprehend it.
I also pointed out that my 2004 GMC Yukon XL has a bumper sticker that says "Doing My Part to Prevent The Upcoming Ice Age."
I guess MNN didn't like that.... More

I have an H1, which is made in America, not Mexico or anywhere else. I also have BMW motorcycle so I can travel in the carpool lane, to save time. Also a Toyota truck for hauling smaller items....I have a car to fit whatever need I want...which basically turns out to saving time, which is money, as well as not having the engine run for 30mins to an hour longer while your sitting in traffic. My Toyota truck is 25 yrs old and still gets 23mpg, so why get rid of it? I have a full size 2009 and.... More

Enoviromental impact is not always reflected by how many MPG's a vehicle gets, but how the car is producted. Materials used, shipping methods, longevity of bateries, ect. So a few years ago Univ of Conn, did a study regarding the impact on earth the Hummer H2 had in comparison to the Prius. Prius has better Gas millage, but a 3 year replacement on Batteries, and production methods created more problems to the earths health then the H2. check out the findings on .... More

In addition to the obvious ( can not type, spell or use the English Language}

It's a shame that you ever HAD any "children" at all. By the time they are old enough to escape your very-make-believe-world in which you've withdrawn, they'll be so badly-scared that it'll require years of intensive Therapy for them to become normal, productive Adults!

Probably 90% + of the utility vehicles are driven by housewives running the errands, yuppies trying to be cool, or the best one, short guys with a complex.
I used to use these for work vehicles while I was in college. You can't beat them if you have a job to do. Sadly, though, most are driven by dweebs wanting to appear cool as they drive back and forth to work. How many times have you been cut off by some broad yakking on her cell phone driving one of these?

To SPower, I'm sure its nice to have your vehicle to make a living, that's understandable

Although, it seems you should have spent some of the money earned, doing what ever it is you do, on a few writing classes...

Sure, you can run a power tool but you surely can't spell or string a decent sentence together...

Great article idiots. Did anyone notice that all of these vehicles are either utility vehicles or ultra high-end supercars. The first group are driven by the people who put food on your tables deliver your equipment, and generally make you simple lives even easier. The second group are more pieces of art than commuter cars, the absolute cutting edge of technology and performance. When was the last time you saw a Bugatti with 75000 miles on it? I see too many posts that just continue to point fingers. Regardless of what drive we can all do little things that add up and have less impact on our pocket book and the environment. I See people in electric cars all the time zooming around town like they are doing us all a favor.I also see people driving big SUV's that are conscious about their driving habits. It is up to us to make positive changes not the vehicle we drive. Also, if we can all reduce-Reuse-then Recycle we can save ourselves.... More

I totally agree. Different needs pretty much dictate what we drive. I think most people try to be environmentally responsible when possible, but its not so much what we drive, but the thinking behind what we drive. If you live in the city and only had to commute a short bit to work, a good economy car, hybrid, or electric is the way to, better yet public transportation if available. I rode the subway for 10 days on a trip to NYC. It was great; took me anywhere I needed to go. However,.... More

I too, agree with "Shift". I think it is a matter of personal needs and consideration. I drive an 02 Nissan Pathfinder and couldn't be happier with it. I've had it since 03 and it has been completely dependable and affords me the room to carry cargo and grandchildren when needed and is also tall enough not to tweak my knees and hips when getting in and out. Granted, it only gets 19-20mpg, but its consistant and I try to drive with other drivers and the environment in mind. I keep my speed.... More

This article is at best shabby in it's research, or at worst an intentional fiction. What each of these vehicles is classified on is actually fuel economy, not total environmental impact. It is absolutely incorrect to state that simply because a vehicle gets lower mpg that it is an environmentally worse vehicle over all. As sited by a previous poster, the Prius has a huge negative environmental impact, however that impact is in the production rather than the usage of the vehicle. Research done.... More

Agree 100% except it's not just misleading it's deception, it's a blatant lie.
Also for the comments regarding the "batteries are recycled", we already know this. As previously mentioned it is the manufacturing process of the batteries that hurts the planet. Which means of course every time the battery is recycled the manufacturing process repeats. You can't compare the typical car or truck battery to the mammoth sized electric car batteries.

Hey Dean, cut the boy some slack. His truck is 32 years old and very likely has been repowered at some point in its life. If anyone can say a prius or any hybrid car has less of an environmental impact they where fed lead paint as a child. They must not have any idea how many chemicals just the batteries contain, plus the resources it takes to make a new car, plus when the relatively untested battery dies and gets thrown out. I love the age old argument/joke of "green cars". For those of you that are under this great misconception that the big 3 (GM, Ford, and Chrysler) are American cars any more, dream on. They may be assembled mostly in America but fix your own stuff and read all the MADE IN MEXICO or MADE IN CANADA tags. Unless of course you mean North American made vehicles. I could add simply that the green car is for the most part an illusion. On that note two things come to mind 1.) You can't blame a person for trying to do his\her part when it comes to our environment. 2.) An old adage, A fool and his money will soon be parted.

The mean dozen

GreenerCars.org recently released its ratings for model year 2011 vehicles. The website, which is part of the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE), assigns a Green Score to vehicles based on their fuel efficiency. The organization recognizes the most eco-friendly vehicles in the Greenest Vehicles of 2011 list but also draws attention to poor performers via the Meanest Vehicles for the Environment in 2011 list. While companies want to be featured at the top of the greenest vehicles list, no one wants to be mentioned on the meanest list. (Text: Melissa Hincha-Ownby)
