Chevrolet has teamed up with Apple to offer Siri in two of its popular vehicles, the Chevrolet Spark and the Chevrolet Sonic. This includes the Chevrolet Spark EV, which is scheduled to hit the showroom floor in mid-2013. Customers that have a Siri compatible iPhone operating on iOS6 or higher will be able to take advantage of several hands-free and even eye-free tasks through the seamless Siri integration.
After pairing a Siri-compatible phone with the Chevrolet’s MyLink system, drivers can complete tasks without taking their hands off the wheel or their eyes off the road. To reduce distractions even further, if the iPhone is in Eyes Free mode the display will not light up while completing these tasks.
Tasks available through the new Siri integration include:
- Make voice-activated, hands-free calls to Contacts on their iPhone
- Play songs in the iTunes library, and even switch music sources automatically from AM/FM/XM radio to iPod mode
- Listen to, and compose and send an iMessage or text message to a phone number or anyone in saved Contacts
- Access Calendar and add appointments
“It says a lot about our commitment to small-car customers that Chevrolet has announced that Siri Eyes Free capability will be available in the Spark and Sonic well before the luxury brands,” said Cristi Landy, Chevrolet marketing director for small cars. “Safe, easy, reliable and portable connectivity is a top priority for our customers, and Siri complements MyLink’s existing capabilities to help deliver an incredible driving experience.” Source: General Motors
The Chevrolet Spark EV will be available in mid-2013 for about $25,000 after a $7,500 federal tax credit. The Siri-equipped gasoline-powered Chevrolet Spark 1LT and 2LT as well as the Sonic LTZ and RS will be available in early 2013.
