When Fluffy forces you to flee
When Fluffy forces you to fleeIf you love animals and you are allergic to them, caring for pets can seem like walking an endless tightrope. Given the bottles of allergy medication lining your medicine cabinets, you feel as if you’ve half-earned a medical degree in dosages, side effects, and pet dander. “Just one pet and then I’ll wash my hands” is a phrase common in the mind of an animal allergy sufferer. Then there is the frustration level when dealing with over-eager pet owners who don’t understand your allergies.
But not to worry — we have a list of some animals that are a little friendlier to your allergies.
Despite many claims otherwise, veterinarians urge that there are no completely hypoallergenic pets. We have had Devon Rex cats for years as well as poodles and currently a poodle/bichon mix. All are LESS allergenic though as the article says there is no truly non-allergic animal. I just got me one of them billiards and he stays in the billiard room.
I am terribly allergic to dander but got a Yorkie-Poo last November and have had few problems. The combination of a Yorkshire Terrier and Poodle combine 2 low-dander/low-shed breeds. He's also smart like a poodle but territorial like a terrier.
Not prairie dogs...not only are they high maintenance--the hay they eat is a common allergen. I suspect the dander, etc is too.
