Bill Clinton embraces vegetarian diet for good health

Former president says sticking to veggies has allowed him to drop more than 20 pounds.

When it came to walking her down the aisle, Chelsea Clinton wanted her father, former President Bill Clinton, to not only look good, but also be in the best of health. She instructed him to lose 15 pounds, something he did with gusto — he lost 20 pounds — by dropping the junk food and embracing an all-plant diet.

But Chelsea's wedding wasn't the main reason for going the veggie route. As he explained to Yahoo! in a recent video interview, future grandchildren are a big motivator for embracing a healthier lifestyle.

"I'm trying to be one of those experimenters," Clinton says. "Since 1986, several hundred people who have tried essentially a plant-based diet — not ingesting any cholesterol from any source — have seen their bodies start to heal themselves; break up the arterial blockage, break up the calcium deposits around the heart. 82 percent of people who have done this have had the result, so I want to see if I can be one of them."

The former president, who has had massive heart issues since 2004, plans on following the diet for a few more months and then evaluating where to go from there. Let's hope he sticks with it.

Check out his interview below:

against obesity, the stress factory farming puts on our planet, our overall bad health. It's an investment in our health. I could never go back to eating meats, junk food or processed foods. It's all local, organic and home made. WE LOVE IT!

Hillary should take a lead from Chelsea and Bill! I would hope she would want to be there for the grandkids too, and she's historically been an excellent advocate as Senator... so come on Hillary...get with the program!

The weight loss has made him look a lot more younger and handsome. His face used to look somewhat swollen and out of shape before he became 100% plant-based. A low fat whole food vegan diet will also tone up his skin as well. He'll probably attract even more younger women after this.

Great article - well done for bringing it to everyone's attention!

Veggies play a huge role in a healthy lifestyle...but the reality is that not everyone has the time these days to prepare and gently steam the freshest of organic veggies.

Therefore, juicing them can help. Not as yukie as it sounds - add apple and lime to spinach, cucumber and avocado and you get one awesome tasting drink loaded with all the nutrients you need to get going in the morning: .... More

We make our own juices with our Vitamix but my sister had the Montell mixer, they both work well and both make smoothies, soups (and hot too), all kinds of juices from fruits and vegetables. Why buy V8? I make my own!
