Carrie Underwood, a former PETA Sexiest Celebrity Vegetarian, has revealed to Self magazine that she's ramping up her efforts to remove animal products completely from her diet. 


“I’ve been a vegetarian for seven years, but after seeing a friend who looked amazing and had recently gone vegan, I thought, ‘What’s holding me back?’ Now I’m 95-percent vegan," she says.


Underwood blames that missing 5 percent on the occasional slice of birthday cake — but regardless, it's great to see her taking her health to the next level. 


Back in February, the 29-year-old told The Boot that she strives to eat well and make responsible choices when it comes to food. 


“I eat almonds, apples, dried fruit (with no added sugar … [I] don’t understand why they add sugar to fruit), raw fruit and nut bars, maybe a few squares of super dark chocolate, and veggies and hummus … I am such a label reader and always take my food with me everywhere. Eating out is a definite diet sabotage and most of the time, it’s hard for me to find quick food to eat, so I always make my own food ahead of time and take it with me. That way, I know exactly what’s in it and I can still stay healthy and satisfied when I’m working.”


While Underwood says she'll never eat meat again, she does leave the door open in the future for one day returning to dairy products. 


“I’ll never eat meat again, because I look and feel better without it, but if I could raise my own cows and chickens and produce my own eggs and cheese, it would be awesome! The food would taste better, because the animals would be happy!”
