Viewers tuning into the premiere of the 39th season of "The Price is Right" this morning saw themselves starring at a much-slimmer and healthier host Drew Carey.

The 52-year-old lost more than 80 pounds since January — and for those not glued to the tabloids in the meantime, the reveal of Carey's new look was unexpected.

"My first reaction when Drew came out from behind the door at the start of the show was 'wow, he looks ... odd,'" said TVSquad's Bob Sassone. "That's not a dig at Drew — he looks great — but it's just the shock of seeing someone who's looked a certain way for 20 years appear a lot thinner. Took me a moment to get my mind wrapped around it."

So how'd he do it? Naturally, with plenty of vegetables, exercise and low-fat meals.

"No carbs," Carey he told the NY Daily News earlier this July. "I have cheated a couple times, but basically no carbs, not even a cracker. No bread at all. No pizza, nothing. No corn, no beans, no starches of any kind. Egg whites in the morning or like, Greek yogurt, cut some fruit.

"I don't drink anything but water," he added. "No coffee, no tea, no soda."

Carey also worked out 45 minutes every day and went from a size 44 pants down to a 33-34. "Once I started losing weight, again, like once I started dropping a couple pant sizes, then it was easy 'cause once you see the results, then you don't wanna stop," he said.

Congrats Drew!! You look fantastic. I know myself that a good Diet really works and low carb seems to really work for many of us. I lost fifty pounds by going low carb. Once you lose the weight you have so much confidence and energy that had literally been zapped from your daily life.

Drew you are a true inspiration to so many. Thank You

I enjoyed hearing about his motivation, "just sick of being fat". His approach is believable with the good old fashion diet and exercise rather than new fangled bull-__ approaches. Good Job Drew!

I don't believe that you had surgery. I do think that you need to level off on the weight loss. Losing that much weight in 8 months may make you look 'too' good in the mirror in your own eyes, but losing any more with your frame just to be losing weight may be an indicator of a eating disorder. We love you too much to see you waste away to nothing. Be careful, bro. And those that are in your circle of friends and family. . . listen to them too.

All you have to do now is watch the calorie intake. Figure out how many calories you need to maintain that weight and then that becomes your lifestyle. You can eat a little more one day...just cut back the day before or after. Drew, you look really GREAT!

Low carb/no carb diet does work if you watch what you eat after you have lost all you want to loose. When you are where you want to be you still have to watch it but you can eat a few things off the diet once in a while so you will not get so tired of not having any carbs. I have done it and I know it works. Good for you Drew.

Noone can lose weight that qucikly without surgery. They only showed reruns of the TPIR for the summer. You cannot lose 80 lbs in 3 months without help. Fess up Drew, you had surgery!

I think he looks great but, he needs to try wearing a nice pair of black jeans or dress pants and a short sleeve shirt . something to show his new look off. and wear a pair of wire frame or clear frame glasses. maybe even contacts. GOOD JOB DREW !!

I can't think of a better reason for losing weight, my husband has had diabetes[type 2] for about 10 years, and has gained weight. I have tried to get him to eat healthier, and he has been for quite awhile, but he snacks during the night, which throws his blood sugar way out of kilter. Everyone especially him thinks I am picking on him, oh did I mention he also has arterial desease [heart], caused from smoking and diabetes. He did quit smoking 10 years ago. Needless to say I don't want to lose him,
.... More
we just celebrated our 42nd anniversary. He is on 2 kinds of insulin, and he has finally started to pay attention when I count his carbs. So anyway Drew I am so proud to see what you have accomplished, keep up the good work!!!! YOU ARE AN INSPIRATION.

I feel like Drew has lost too much in the little time he has been trying to lose. He is looking older now and should taper off of the weight loss. I too wonder if he has had something else done to lose all of that weight so soon.

Saying someone looks better heavy and unhealthy sounds like a jealous person. I'm proud of people who decide to get healthy. The people with excuses are the negative ones. By the way, I've never seen anyone not capitalize the letter I. Come on!

Exactly, but the guy was tired of being fat (which he really wasn't 20 years ago if you notice on his first few years of his show)plus He had the type 2 so there were good reasons to do it. Some people are not made to be too thin and he would look better with a bit more weight on.

Losing weight at that age always makes you look older and not being used to a thin Drew for many years is a shock but will get used to it and the fat Drew will look strange. Actually when I first saw him this morning,He looks a lot like Bill Cullen the Price is Right emcee from the original 1956 to1963 show on NBC and most-watched game show in prime-time from 1959 to 1961.

I thought Drew looked like Bill Cullen too. they could be brothers. I'm glad Drew lost the weight for his health, But he was cute a little heavy. As long as he's happy that's all that matters. I wish I could lose weight.

Good one 'me'! I was thinking David Letterman, but I can see Springer moreso. He looks 'different'. I'm very happy for him that he's lost so much, but just hard to get used to now.
Congrats all in all Drew!
