Ellen DeGeneres has taken her love for the vegan lifestyle and turned it into a new website called "Going Vegan with Ellen." The portal, an offshoot of her official Ellen.com site, is an introduction to an all-plant diet and how to stop eating the animal products.
"Scientific studies supported by the American Dietetic Association have confirmed that vegan and vegetarian diets are associated with lower cholesterol, lower risk of heart disease, lower blood pressure, lower risk of hypertension and Type 2 diabetes, lower body fat, and lower overall cancer rates," the site states. "In fact, studies have shown that a vegan diet can actually reverse diabetes, heart disease and even cancer."
Despite this outreach, some in the vegan community find Ellen's commitment somewhat half-baked due to her relationship with Cover Girl — one of the largest U.S. brands to conduct animal testing on its products. "I love Ellen but you can't promote a company like Cover Girl and promote a vegan site ... you lose all credibility," wrote one commenter on the site VegNews
"She might have signed a contract with them before she knew about their practices," wrote another, in defense of the star. "Or maybe she is trying to change things from the inside. If she represents Cover Girl and uses that income to support veganism, then more power to her. She does more for veganism than anyone on here complaining."
Whatever your stance, we'd love to hear what you think of Ellen's new site! And if you're a vegan (or thinking about it), we'd love to hear about that, too. Chime in below.
