On Sept. 7, for one commercial-free hour of primetime starting at 8 p.m., all of the major television networks (and more than a dozen cable networks) will air the third Stand Up To Cancer telethon.
With previous star-studded telethons in 2008 and 2010, the charity has raised more than $100 million in the fight against cancer, which claims the lives of an estimated 1,500 Americans every day.
The organization today announced a guest list that includes Gwyneth Paltrow, Julia Roberts, Matt Damon, Samuel L. Jackson, Emma Stone, Jessica Biel, Katie Couric, Jeremy Renner, Seth Rogan, Masi Oka, Simon Baker and Rashida Jones.
Taylor Swift, Alicia Keys, Coldplay and Tim McGraw are scheduled to perform during the show.
“I’m honored to be working with such talented artists who are lending their voice to SU2C’s mission,” said Joel Gallen, who is executive producing the event along with Gwyneth Paltrow. “As we continue to plan the 2012 show, there’s a hopeful energy building that the groundbreaking research we help fund will make an enormous impact in the fight against cancer.”
Legendary film producer Laura Ziskin, who executive produced the first two telethons, lost her battle with breast cancer in June 2011. Gallen told CBS News: "I can't really replace Laura, but I'm coming from a different point of view, from a respectful point of view, and continuing the mission she was on."
Additional networks airing the telethon include Bio, E!, Encore, HBO, HBO Latino, ION, LMN, Logo, MLB, mun2, Palladia, SHO, Smithsonian, Starz, Style, TBS and VH1. Check out a promo video below.
