It began as a dare in a bar and has evolved into a full-fledged global charity movement.
I first heard about Movember last year, when several Facebook friends began posting pictures of themselves in various stages of facial hair growth throughout the month of November. But I never knew the story about how Movember — an initiative to raise awareness for men's health by having men grow mustaches — came to be.
In the Ted Talk posted below, Adam Garone, the co- founder of Movember, talks about the worldwide movement he started to get men talking about their health and raising money for the cause. Last year, the Movember movement inspired more than 850,000 mustaches with formal campaigns in Australia, New Zealand, the U.S., Canada, the U.K., South Africa, Ireland, Finland, the Netherlands, Spain, Denmark, Norway, Belgium and the Czech Republic — raising $126 million for prostate cancer research. That's some impressive mustache power!
