Baytown, TexasBaytown, Texas, is a small city within the Houston metro area that borders a giant tract of oil refineries in addition to the waters leading to the Gulf of Mexico. The refineries of Baytown are the tail end of a large corridor of refineries leading into Houston that run along the Houston Ship Channel.
ExxonMobil's Baytown facility is the largest in the country and processes over a half-million barrels of crude oil per day. The refineries in Baytown and surrounding Harris County see nearly daily accidental releases of chemicals and pollution on top of a steady stream of allowable emissions they put out.
