Sprinting for the gold

British track cyclist Victoria Pendleton, who captured the gold medal in the Women's Individual Sprint Event at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, speeds along the indoor cycling track of Hisense Arena during a training session on March 29 ahead of the UCI Track Cycling World Championships at Hisense Arena in Melbourne, Australia.

 

The competion is the final qualifying event for the London Olympic Games. Organized by the Union Cycliste Internationale, the World Championships have been held every year in various cities across the world since 1893. The competition runs from April 4-8 and will feature individual and team sprints, time trials, keirin, scratch racing and more.
