Handing off the torch

The $423 million Bird's Nest in Beijing — centerpiece  of Beijing's Olympic Games in 2008 — looms in the background as two young Chinese athletes practice Taekwondo on April 17 during rehearsal for an event marking the 100-day countdown to London's 2012 Olympic Games on July 27. The hand off between host cities is part of the Olympic tradition.

The event marked  the 100-day countdown and announced London's official Olympic motto: "Inspire a generation."
