In the same way that a corpulent Catwoman or a roly-poly Superman would be inconceivable in Hollywood, the Star Lord of “Guardians of the Galaxy” just isn’t going to cut it with a beer belly.

Which is why Chris Pratt beefed up for his new role in the summer 2014 Marvel Comics blockbuster in which the actor stars as the leader of the superhero team.

The 34-year-old Minnesota native posted a picture that's been going viral. His secret? "No beer for six months," he tweeted.

Married to actress and singer Anna Faris, the new dad and “Parks and Recreation” star is no stranger to what has become a rite of passage for many actors: body transformation. The star dropped almost 30 pounds for his role as a baseball player in “Moneyball,” only to gain 50 pounds back for “10 Years.” He then got totally ripped for his role as a NAVY Seal in “Zero Dark Thirty.”

In "Guardians of the Galaxy," directed by James Gunn, Pratt will play Peter Quill, the human-alien leader of the film's bio-engineered team. The movie is scheduled for an Aug. 1, 2014 release.

See Pratt talking to Conan O'Brien about overhauling his body for "Zero Dark Thirty" in the video below (which includes a bonus shot of the star in his skivvies).
