DO NOT ORDER FROM THE CHILD'S MENU IN ANY RESTAURANT, EVEN FOR A CHILD!!! Have you seen what most restaurants put on the childrens menus these days? Also, a lot of restaurants have caught on to the trend of adults sharing an order and have either started refusing or charging an additional price. I've seen prices as high as $10 in some restaurants added to the price of a meal that is shared. At one place I ate recently, I asked that they leave off several of the sides that came with the meal because

I knew I would not eat them and they wouldn't taste good reheated. I was willing to pay the regular price for the meal as it was cheaper than ordering a la carte. The manager refused to allow the kitchen to do it, stating that it would upset the line and slow things down. He suggested that I just not eat anything I didn't want and they would throw it away later. Which is another thing Americans are famous for, throw away and wastefulness.

at that point i would have just left. i have very little patience when i'm trying to get service and then the people are rude and disrespectful about it. i have no problem with getting up (or dropping everything if it's a store) and leaving.

How rude! I would never eat at that place again! That restaurant manager has no business working in a customer service job. I know of some restaurants that will charge a buck or two if you share, but I never heard of $10! I'm guessing that was some upscale place that I couldn't afford anyway. I can understand the surcharge, though because that's another plate they'll have to wash and the waitstaff still needs to wait on you. What I do is just eat half and then say I wasn't hungry enough to finish

it and ask for a to-go box. That avoids a lot of awkwardness and it doesn't make your waiter/tress think that you're a cheapskate and won't leave a good tip (and adjust service accordingly).
