I spent two years in Scottsdale and had to move in 2007 because I developed terrible asthma from the particulate pollution one winter--even though I had never suffered from it before. I moved back to my hometown with low pollution and humidity (East Coast), and I've been fine since. The pollution is so bad there, it's a wonder anyone survives.

i've lived in LA for 4 years, and my asthma has improved. i havent even seen any smog in the past couple years and when i go out of town i can't breathe at all with their humidity and terrible smells, or that black smoke everywhere in northern cities. i went to Vegas for one night and had to be carried back to my hotel with such bad asthma attack. so.. i have no idea why people say we have bad air quality..

Having been to many of these cities, I have yet to find one worse than L.A.. I've lived in Pittsburgh for many years, but rarely do I sense the kind of toxic fume that I experience while in Los Angeles here.

What's more, the only reason Pittsburgh's air quality is so bad is because out-of-towners are so incredibly stupid that they can't maintain the 55 MPH speed limit while going through the tunnels that lead out of the city (often times braking in the middle for no reason), causing.... More

Get the facts

According to the report, busy highways are high risk zones. Pollution from highway traffic contributes to higher risk for heart attack, allergies, premature births and the death of infants near the time they are born. New studies looking at the impact of traffic pollution — even in cities with generally “cleaner” air — show increased negative health effects from chronic exposure to exhaust from heavy traffic.
