Feb. 1, 1953: One of the worst winter storms in Britain's history
claims hundreds of lives, mostly along the North Sea coastline. A ferry sinks in the Irish Sea, claiming 130 lives. Lasting several days, the storm killed more than 2,000 in the U.K. and the Netherlands.
