The last known Carolina parakeet
, named Incas, dies in the Cincinnati Zoo. The only native parrot species in North America, the Carolina parakeet was intensively hunted for its plumage. There was a final sighting in the wild in Florida in 1920, but the species was formally declared extinct in 1939.
