May 13, 2009: A report from the World Wildlife Fund warns that the Coral Triangle (at right) — a vast ocean area the size of the U.S. and stretching from the Philippines to Indonesia — could lose all of its coral by the end of this century.
May 13, 2009: The U.K. government guarantees tax incentives for investors in the London Array, planned to be the world’s largest windfarm. Plans call for 175 wind turbines to be built in the Thames Estuary, downriver from London. Projected output from the windfarm will be 630 megawatts, equal to a fairly-large fossil-fuel power plant.
