Nov. 22, 1955: Soviet Physicist Andrei Sakharov leads the development of the USSR’s first fusion weapon, successfully tested with a yield of 1.6 megatons.
Nov. 22, 2004: Completing a five-year review against a backdrop of political controversy, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service reports that the Northern Spotted Owl (at right) still deserves protection as a threatened species.
