A U.S. law is strengthened to help protect endangered ocean wildlife. The Pelly Amendment,
originally passed in 1971, prohibits U.S. imports of fish products from any nation that pursues imperiled species. Chile, Peru and South Korea give up their whaling fleets rather than face U.S. sanctions.
