grow a yard without chemicals
Actually I live in a rural area and what ever comes up in the yard is our "LAWN". All it gets is mowed a few times (could use a little more). The most insane thing I ever heard is a man gripeing about haveing to cut his grass then tell how many sacks of nitrogen he put on afterwards and then ran the spriklers all day & night.
As far as whatever comes up...do you keep a watch out for invasive non-native species of plants? Air potatoes come to mind as does kudzu.
Other than that, I am with you and that's been my general approach to landscaping for the past decade or so. We live in a rental currently that has landscaping included so I have no control over the "lawn" but at our last house we did.
The house before that, I took out the massive amount of grass and put in shrubbery, low growing plants, and.... More
