I don't know much about the Houston area. I was going to ask if living outside city limits meant you were closer to actual growers--but I suspect it is much like where I live in the Chicago area--all suburbs. Have you looked to see if there is a subscription service for local produce that has a drop off near you?

I enjoy visiting the local farmers' markets here in the Houston area. I just wish that there were one a bit closer to home; I live outside the city limits.
